The Role:

  • Taking responsibility for safeguarding and regulatory compliance.

The Person:

  • Experience: At least 2 years working with traumatised children and young people who display challenging behaviours.
  • Qualifications: Social Work Degree or Diploma (Northern Ireland roles) and NISCC registration.
  • Leadership Skills: Minimum 2 years managing staff, including coaching, supervision, and leading team meetings.
  • Driving License: Full UK or Irish license held for over 1 year, with no more than 3 penalty points.
  • Compliance: Ability to obtain Enhanced Access NI and register with NISCC if not already registered.

Role Overview:

As a Social Worker, you will join a busy Tusla team supporting children and families, delivering frontline statutory services focused on child protection, welfare, and family support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a professional social work service in line with statutory responsibilities
  • Conduct child protection and welfare assessments in accordance with Children First guidelines
  • Develop, implement, and review care plans, child protection plans, and family support plans
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Support children in care and coordinate family access arrangements where required
  • Maintain accurate case records and prepare reports for court proceedings, case conferences, and reviews
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, supervision, and interagency collaboration

Essential Requirements:

  • Must be CORU Registered as a Social Worker (essential)
  • Professional Social Work qualification recognised by CORU
  • Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification experience in a relevant setting
  • Experience in child protection, welfare, or children in care services (desirable)
  • Full driving licence and access to own transport
  • Strong assessment, communication, and report writing skills

Requirements

Essential Criteria (must have):

  • Full, current driving licence and access to a car (insured for business use)
  • Experience working with young people in supported housing, community support, or a similar setting:

Minimum 1 years’ experience, OR

A relevant degree (e.g. Social Work, Youth & Community Work) plus 6 months’ experience

  • Experience of risk assessment and safety planning
  • Experience of needs assessment and support planning
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and manage a varied workload
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Resilience and compassion when working in a challenging environment

Desirable:

  • Experience working with young people affected by homelessness
