Youth Housing Worker (Nights)

Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them develop the skills and confidence to live independently? We are recruiting Youth Housing Workers to provide support, guidance, and safeguarding for young people aged 16-21 who are transitioning from care or experiencing homelessness.

Contract Type
- Temporary to Permanent
- Up to 8 weeks temporary assignment with reviews at Week 4 and Week 8
- Successful candidates may transition to a permanent contract, subject to compliance checks
Salary
- Temporary rate: £13.43 per hour
- Permanent salary: £25,403 per annum
Working Hours
- Full-time, 36 hours per week
- Typically, 3 x 12-hour shifts
- Predominantly Waking Night Shifts
- Includes weekends, bank holidays, and occasional day shifts as required
Key Responsibilities
Supporting Young People
- Provide a safe, accessible point of contact during night shifts and weekends.
- Build positive relationships with young people and promote a safe home environment.
- Deliver person-centred support tailored to individual needs.
- Assist young people in developing essential life skills, including budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and maintaining a home.
- Support young people in transitioning to independent living and sustaining their tenancies.
- Encourage participation, personal development, and confidence-building activities.
Safeguarding & Wellbeing
- Promote the protection and safeguarding of young people at all times.
- Follow support plans, safety plans, and safeguarding procedures.
- Respond appropriately to incidents, concerns, and emergencies.
- Maintain the security and safety of the accommodation.
Partnership Working
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies supporting young people.
- Communicate effectively with emergency services, support networks, and relevant stakeholders when required.
- Support positive relationships within the local community and assist in resolving neighbourhood issues.
Administration & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records and reports in line with organisational policies and GDPR requirements.
- Ensure health and safety standards, fire safety procedures, and quality standards are upheld.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions, training, and continuous professional development.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A minimum of 6 months’ experience supporting people in a caring role.
- A valid Enhanced Access NI Check.
- Current NISCC Registration.
- Mandatory training in:
- First Aid
- Fire Safety
- Safeguarding
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of homelessness, mental health, and substance use issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Resilience, compassion, and a professional approach in challenging situations.
- Commitment to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable young people.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience working in a supported housing or residential care environment.
- Health and Social Care qualification or other relevant third-level qualification.
- Full driving licence with access to a vehicle insured for business use.
