The role is a 1.5 year specified purpose contract, offered on a 4-day week basis, providing 28 hours per week.

The service has a strong, established psychology presence, with an experienced psychology team and excellent peer support available. Successful Candidate:

The successful candidate will work as part of a very well-established Community Adult Mental Health multidisciplinary team.

You will have regular clinical supervision. Your leadership style will be based around compassion and inclusivity; you will encourage this in the staff you clinically supervise. You will work closely with the leadership team to ensure the service is resilient and sustainable, with a well-supported team delivering evidence-based interventions.

Within the CMHT, there is also access to a Talking Therapy Hub, which provides group interventions and sees patients from across all CMHTs. This offers valuable additional support and a strong clinical network for the psychologist stepping into this role.

The successful candidate will also have a psychology colleague from the Milltown B Team CMHT based nearby, offering informal peer support and collaboration where needed.

Job Purpose:

The Senior Psychologist will provide advanced psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions to adults presenting with a range of mental health needs within a community setting. The role will also involve consultation, supervision, MDT input, and contribution to ongoing service development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality Senior SLT services across complex adult communication and dysphagia caseloads.
  • Assess, diagnose and support older adults presenting with dementia, neurological conditions, frailty, complex communication needs and swallowing difficulties.
  • Provide assessment, intervention and care planning across clinic settings, domiciliary visits, clients’ homes and wider community environments.
  • Manage a varied senior-level caseload independently, including completing assessments on your own as the sole clinician where appropriate, using strong clinical reasoning and evidence-informed practice.
  • Support dysphagia management and contribute to the development of the community-based FEES service, with opportunities to further build specialist competencies in this area.
  • Contribute to service improvement and collaborative care across the region.

Requirements:

  • CORU registration, or registration in process, as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Significant clinical experience working with older adults, including communication disorders, dysphagia, dementia, neurological conditions, frailty and complex presentations.
  • A dysphagia qualification or equivalent, in line with IASLT standards.
  • A minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience, with the ability to work independently at Senior Grade level.
  • Strong clinical reasoning, communication and organisational skills.
  • A collaborative, practical approach and a genuine interest in adult primary care, older persons’ services and complex community-based rehabilitation.
  • Full clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle for community visits.
