Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of communication and swallowing disorders for patients following stroke.
  • Deliver evidence-based Speech & Language Therapy interventions to both inpatient and Early Supported Discharge (ESD) stroke patients.
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary Stroke team, including consultants, nurses and allied health professionals.
  • Support safe discharge planning and community transition for stroke patients.
  • Manage a varied clinical caseload across inpatient and community stroke pathways.
  • Supervise and support Basic Grade SLTs, students and therapy assistants.
  • Contribute to service development initiatives, clinical audits and quality improvement projects.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and professional practice in line with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in education and training programmes for colleagues and healthcare professionals.

Essential Requirements

  • CORU Registration as a Speech & Language Therapist (Essential)
  • Minimum of 3 years full-time (or equivalent) post-qualification clinical experience
    (Candidates with 2.5 years experience may be considered for panel formation)
  • Experience working with stroke patients within an acute or rehabilitation setting
  • Full competence in the assessment and management of adult eating, drinking and swallowing disorders
  • Proven experience working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to Stroke care
  • Experience supervising junior staff, students or therapy assistants
  • Strong communication, clinical reasoning and leadership skills
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Post-graduate competence in adult video fluoroscopy and/or FEES interpretation and reporting (Desirable).
