Beauty Buyer
My client, an iconic department store retailer, is seeking a confident and commercially focused Beauty Buyer to join its established head office in Portlaoise. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Buyer with a genuine passion for beauty and a proven ability to manage relationships with suppliers, stores and internal stakeholders. Responsibilities of this Beauty Buyer role include:
- Develop and deliver the commercial buying strategy for the beauty category, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall product, buying and merchandising strategies.
- Source, select and price compelling product ranges across beauty, cosmetics, skincare and personal care.
- Build customer-focused ranges for assigned product groups, incorporating seasonal launches, planned promotions and multi-buy activity.
- Manage sales, margin, stock-turn and category budgets, taking timely action to maximise commercial performance.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, negotiating commercial terms and joint business plans that deliver maximum value.
- Create and manage a robust promotional calendar in collaboration with suppliers, marketing and retail operations.
- Review promotional performance and provide clear commercial insights and recommendations to management.
- Contribute to weekly trade meetings with proposed actions to drive sales, margin and stock performance.
- Develop merchandising principles and planograms, ensuring ranges, promotions and customer-facing messages are executed consistently in stores.
- Communicate category plans, pricing, promotions and merchandising requirements clearly to retail operations and store teams.
- Regularly visit stores to review category execution, gather feedback and identify opportunities to improve performance.
- Represent the buying department at supplier meetings, trade shows and industry events where appropriate.
Requirements for this Beauty Buyer role include:
- At least three years’ relevant buying, category management or wholesale experience.
- Previous beauty, cosmetics, skincare, personal care, pharmacy or department store buying experience is highly desirable.
- Strong range-building, product selection and category planning skills.
- Proven experience in supplier management and commercial negotiation.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret sales, margin and stock data.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence using reporting or business intelligence systems.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- A relevant third-level qualification is desirable but not essential.
