About the Role

The Housekeeper will be responsible for ensuring high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation throughout the facility, while always respecting residents’ privacy, dignity, and independence.

Key Responsibilities

Communal Areas

  • Clean and maintain lounges, sitting rooms, corridors, and entrance areas
  • Dust furniture and surfaces
  • Empty waste bins and replace liners
  • Vacuum and clean floors
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, including telephones and equipment
  • Maintain fresh flowers and decorative areas where applicable

Residents’ Bedrooms

  • Clean and tidy bedrooms daily
  • Dust furniture, window sills, and bedside lockers
  • Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors
  • Empty waste bins
  • Assist in maintaining a comfortable and pleasant environment for residents

Bathrooms and Toilets

  • Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, showers, baths, and related fixtures
  • Replenish soap, paper towels, and other consumables
  • Clean mirrors, floors, grab rails, and touch points
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times

Clinical and Staff Areas

  • Clean nurses’ stations and administrative areas
  • Dust desks, cupboards, and equipment
  • Empty waste and maintain cleanliness standards

Additional Duties

  • Complete weekly cleaning schedules and documentation
  • Adhere to health and safety policies and infection control procedures
  • Undertake additional housekeeping duties as required to support the smooth operation of the home

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous housekeeping, cleaning, hospitality, or healthcare cleaning experience desirable
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable, hardworking, and flexible approach
  • Good communication skills
  • A caring and respectful attitude towards older people
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland

Excel Recruitment is hiring a Housekeeper for our client, a large residential care facility in the beautiful countryside of Co. Mayo. This role is part-time and primarily weekend shifts, so may suit a student looking for weekend work, or a candidate looking for part-time hours.

The care home is located between Charlestown and Knock Airport and emanates warmth and comfort. Our client maintains high standards of both care and facilities for residents. To manage the upkeep of the home, both daily cleaning and deep cleaning is carried out by the housekeeping staff. This role will involve routine cleaning of resident’s rooms and living spaces as well as bathrooms and offices. Some interaction with residents is expected, so the ideal candidate will be understanding and possess good communication skills.

Responsibilities of the Housekeeper:

  • Routine and deep cleaning of floors, bathrooms, rooms and living spaces
  • Dusting and polishing furniture and equipment
  • Follow proper waste disposal guidelines
  • Ensure chemicals and used and stored correctly
  • Occasionally assisting residents with meals

Job requirements:
