Excel Recruitment is proud to partner with one of Ireland’s leading providers of residential and specialist care services, to recruit a Director of Care to lead care delivery at one of their largest and most complex sites in Swords.

This is a key senior leadership role with full accountability for the governance, quality, and safety of care across the home, including both long-term care and specialist ABI services.

The ABI unit, established just 14 months ago, is growing at pace and offers a forward-thinking, rehabilitation focused model of care within a highly supportive and well-resourced environment.

Successful candidate:

You will be leading a large, complex, and highly regarded service, supported by a team of over 240 staff, where long-term care is delivered alongside a rapidly growing ABI unit-offering both challenge and the chance to make a meaningful, lasting impact.

You will be supported by a well-established, experienced leadership team, including:

  • Director of Operations (overseeing all clinical operations)
  • Two Assistant Directors of Care
  • Clinical Nurse Managers
  • A large, skilled Multidisciplinary Team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech & Language Therapists and Rehabilitation Assistants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as Person in Charge in line with HIQA regulations
  • Ensure full compliance with the Health Act 2007 and HIQA Standards
  • Lead inspections and maintain continuous audit readiness
  • Oversee risk, safeguarding, and incident management
  • Provide strategic leadership across all care services
  • Oversee complex clinical decision-making and escalation
  • Drive continuous improvement in care quality and outcomes
  • Lead and support Assistant Directors of Care and CNMs
  • Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, and compassion
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, skill mix, and clinical supervision
  • Champion person-centred care and resident dignity
  • Oversee assessment and care planning frameworks
  • Drive quality improvement based on feedback and outcomes
  • Partner with senior leadership on service development
  • Support the ongoing growth of the ABI unit
  • Contribute to long-term planning and innovation

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Registered Nurse with active NMBI registration.
  • Experience operating at a senior clinical leadership level within a regulated care environment in Ireland.
  • Postgraduate qualification in healthcare management, leadership, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of HIQA regulations, governance frameworks, and inspection processes.
  • Proven experience as a Person in Charge (PIC) or in a role with equivalent regulatory accountability.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading quality improvement, risk management, and compliance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in complex or multi-service environments (e.g. long-term care and specialist services).
  • Experience leading or supporting services through HIQA inspections.

The Director of Nursing will oversee all aspects of care and activities in this state-of-the-art private nursing home with support from a well-experienced and dedicated healthcare team.   • Post-registration qualification in healthcare management or equivalent is essential.
