Excel Recruitment is currently recruiting a Staff Grade Dietitian to join Primary Care Paediatric and Adult Community Services in Network 6, East Galway City/Central Galway.

This is an excellent opportunity to work across a mixed paediatric and adult community caseload, gaining broad clinical exposure within a well-supported Primary Care service.

This full-time agency position offers the chance to manage a diverse Primary Care caseload across paediatric and adult community services, work collaboratively within a supportive multidisciplinary team, deliver evidence-based nutritional assessment, intervention and education, and contribute to service development and health promotion initiatives.

The role is based within Network 6, East Galway City/Central Galway, with travel required across the service as needed; therefore, access to your own transport is essential.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, a flexible approach with the ability to work to high standards, as well as being able to recognise personal and role limitations.

The successful candidate will be to deliver high quality evidence-based care, be required to work autonomously and take responsibility for your own clinical caseload.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nutritional assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for a mixed paediatric and adult Primary Care caseload
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualised nutrition care plans
  • Deliver evidence-based dietary advice for a range of clinical conditions (e.g., diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, weight management, paediatric feeding issues, cardiovascular health)
  • Monitor and review patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as required
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical records in line with HSE and professional standards
  • Participate in case discussions and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Liaise with GPs, Public Health Nurses, Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and other relevant professionals
  • Support discharge planning and onward referrals where appropriate
  • Deliver individual and group education sessions where required
  • Provide health promotion initiatives within the community setting
  • Support prevention and early intervention strategies across the lifespan
  • Participate in service audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain statistical data and contribute to service reporting requirements

Requirements

  • BSc/MSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
  • CORU Registration as a Dietitian (essential)
  • Experience working with paediatric or adult caseloads
  • Excellent communication and motivational interviewing skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Own transport essential, for travel across Network 6, East Galway City/Central Galway

Job Purpose:

The Senior Dietitian will lead the provision of a nutrition and dietetic service to adult clients in the community.   • Contribute to hospital discharge planning and support patients transitioning to community-based care.
  • Work collaboratively with Public Health Nurses, Physiotherapists, OTs, and GPs to deliver integrated care plans.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior Dietitians and students.
  • Engage in service development, quality improvement projects, and audits to enhance outcomes and service delivery.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, research, and evidence-based practice.

Requirements:

  • BSc/MSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
  • CORU Registration as a Dietitian (essential)
  • A minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, ideally with strong exposure to adult clinical nutrition in a primary care or community setting
  • Proven expertise in managing chronic disease, malnutrition, weight management, and nutritional counselling
  • Excellent communication and motivational interviewing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider interdisciplinary team
  • A full clean driving licence and access to a car for domiciliary visits
