About the Role
As a Staff Grade Medical Scientist, you will be part of a collaborative and multidisciplinary laboratory environment, gaining valuable experience and exposure across a wide range of disciplines. You’ll contribute to a service that is not only clinically excellent, but also recognised for its innovation and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will be trained across several key disciplines including Biochemistry, Blood Transfusion, Microbiology, and Haematology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and specialised diagnostic testing in Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, and Blood Transfusion (and Microbiology, where required).
- Participate in an on-call rota and provide high-quality service outside of standard hours
- Support compliance with ISO15189 standards and quality assurance procedures.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all testing procedures.
- Contribute to a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous professional development.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences from an approved University
- Possess the Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin Street or the Regional Technical College, Cork awarded prior to 1994
- Hold full registration with CORU.
- Eligible for membership of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine
- Previous experience in Haematology, Biochemistry, Blood transfusion, Clinical Chemistry or Microbiology in a clinical laboratory laboratory setting in Ireland/UK
- Experience of ISO15189 compliance.
- Proven experience working in a clinical laboratory setting, ideally in an Irish hospital environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
