Excel Healthcare is recruiting a Staff Grade Occupational Therapist for the Dublin South West Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons. This is a part-time maternity leave cover role based in Clondalkin Primary Care Centre.

The successful candidate will support older persons through high-quality, person-centred Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention, working closely with a well-established multidisciplinary team focused on independence, safety, and quality of life.

Working days and times can be negotiated across Monday to Friday, 9-5, with the exception of a requirement to work Wednesday mornings from 09:30-11:30.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention, and recommendations for older persons within the Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons.
  • Work from the Integrated Care Hub, Block B, Level 1, Clondalkin Primary Care Centre, Dublin 22, while carrying out regular home visits as a key part of the role.
  • Use clinical knowledge of dementia care, aids and appliances, and assistive technology to support safe, practical outcomes for service users.
  • Travel as required to carry out the duties of the role, so access to own transport and a full drivers’ licence are essential.

About the Role

The Occupational Therapist will deliver a high-quality Occupational Therapy service for older persons, supporting assessment, functional independence, environmental recommendations, and practical interventions that promote safety and wellbeing in the community. Home visits are a significant part of this role, allowing the Occupational Therapist to assess each person’s needs within their own environment and recommend practical supports that make daily life safer and more manageable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out Occupational Therapy assessments and develop appropriate intervention plans for older persons.
  • Support people living with dementia through person-centred assessment and practical recommendations.
  • Prescribe and advise on aids, appliances, and equipment to support independence and safety.
  • Assess and recommend assistive technology where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with service users, families, carers, and a well-established multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in line with professional and organisational standards.

Requirements:

  • CORU registration as an Occupational Therapist is essential.
  • Recognised Occupational Therapy qualification.
  • Knowledge and experience working with people living with dementia.
  • Knowledge and experience in aids and appliances prescription.
  • Knowledge and experience in assistive technology.
  • Access to own transport and full drivers’ licence to carry out the duties of the role.
  • Garda vetting will be required for this post.

  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and support to junior staff, therapy assistants, and students.

  • Min 3 years experience
  • Preferably 1 year adult primary care, adult medical, adult disability, seating, complex cases, neurological or palliative care experience.
