Our client is a well-established and rapidly growing roadside retailer, operating across Ireland, with a strong presence in motorway service areas and forecourt stations. We are seeking a Trainee Buyer to join our Commercial Trading Department. The successful candidate will be a confident people person who can adopt a hands-on approach. Citywest-based.

Responsibilities of this Trainee Buyer:

  • Create and drive efficient processes
  • Maintain internal systems
  • Co-ordinate the buying cycle, working closely with the buying team and other departments across the business
  • Sourcing product information for ranges
  • Reporting as guided by the Head of Trading
  • Creating purchase orders
  • General support and other administration duties for the Trading team

Experience required for this Trainee Buyer:

  • Minimum 1-year administrative experience
  • Experience in a Trading / Buying team is preferable, but not a requirement
  • High proficiency in all Microsoft Office software is also essential (Excel, PPT)
  • Experience within a convenient FMCG retail environment is also advantageous
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Takes new challenges and works on to own initiative

  • Take ownership for the sales, margin and cash profit of a given product area to an allocated budget with the support of the Senior Buyer.

  • Review competitor price positioning, assess current pricing and margin performance and maximise retailer margins and competitive position within the market.
  • Plan events and promotions as per event calendar and brief, communicate to suppliers and review proposals, brief suppliers on promotional requirements, review proposals and negotiate improvements to offers.
  • Plan and co-ordinate a range of seasonal products to maximise sales and margins.
  • Work with the supply chain team and the supplier base to ensure product availability to customers.

Experience required for this Assistant Trading Manager job:

  • 2 years` experience working within a Trading/ Buying environment
  • Strong commercial acumen with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Very high level of accuracy with demonstrable right first-time ethos
  • Ability to understand how actions taken across the business affect sales and margin performance of the category
  • Excellent attention to detail; passionate about getting all projects right first time.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and differentiate between urgent and important tasks
  • Excellent Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) & Outlook skills
