Job Title: Senior Occupational Therapist – Adult Physical Disabilities
Location: Longford or Mullingar (Community Adult Disability Team)
Contract Type: Full-time Agency Contract (35 hours per week)
Salary: HSE Senior Occupational Therapist Pay Scale (commensurate with experience)
Work with adults living with rare and progressive neurological conditions, including Friedreich’s Ataxia, muscular dystrophies, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, and other complex physical disabilities.
Excel Recruitment is currently recruiting a Senior Occupational Therapist to join a HSE specialist Physical Disabilities Team, supporting adults with rare neurological conditions such as Friedreich’s Ataxia, Huntington’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and other complex physical disabilities.

About the Role
As a Senior Occupational Therapist within Adult Disability Services, you will work with adults who have physical, sensory, and neurological disabilities, supporting independence, participation, and quality of life across home and community settings.
You will play a key role in clinical leadership, service development, and the supervision of junior staff, while delivering high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy interventions.
- Deliver specialist Occupational Therapy services to adults living with rare neurological conditions and complex physical disabilities, including Friedreich’s Ataxia, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, and acquired neurological conditions.
- Complete comprehensive occupational therapy assessments focusing on functional ability, participation, independence, and quality of life.
- Develop and implement person-centred intervention plans tailored to the individual’s physical, cognitive, environmental, and social needs.
- Provide expert recommendations in areas such as assistive technology, specialist equipment, seating and positioning, wheelchair provision, environmental modifications, and accessible housing adaptations.
- Support individuals to maximise independence in activities of daily living (ADLs), vocational pursuits, community participation, and self-management of progressive conditions.
- Deliver specialist interventions relating to fatigue management, energy conservation, upper limb rehabilitation, mobility, and long-term condition management.
- Provide clinical supervision, support, and mentorship to Staff Grade Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and students as required.
- Contribute to service development, clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, and the implementation of best practice standards within specialist disability services.
Essential Requirements
- A minimum of three years post-qualification Occupational Therapy experience, with significant experience working with adults with physical disabilities, neurological conditions, or rehabilitation services.
- Demonstrated experience managing a complex caseload, including individuals with progressive neurological conditions such as Friedreich’s Ataxia, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, acquired brain injury, and spinal cord injury.
- Strong clinical expertise in functional assessment, ADL assessment, environmental assessment, equipment prescription, assistive technology, seating and positioning, and housing adaptations.
- Proven ability to work autonomously while managing clinical priorities and delivering evidence-based, person-centred interventions.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team and contributing to coordinated care planning and goal setting.
- A strong understanding of disability services, community supports, and advocacy for adults living with complex physical disabilities.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, clinical governance frameworks, and best practice standards relating to disability and neurological services.
- Full clean driving licence and access to a car for business purposes, where required.
