Senior Buying Manager

Are you a results-driven food buyer with strong commercial acumen and a passion for product innovation?

My client, Ireland’s leading food retailer with a reputation for brand excellence and community values, is seeking a Senior Buying Manager – Food to lead the strategic development and commercial performance of a key food category. This is a high-impact role responsible for delivering profitable growth through effective sourcing, consumer-led product strategies, and supplier partnerships.

Responsibilities of the Senior Buying Manager include:

  • Own and optimise the commercial performance of your category through annual trading plans and targeted budgets
  • Drive revenue and margin growth by setting and monitoring product costs, pricing, and portfolio profitability
  • Develop a compelling food range based on market trends and consumer insight
  • Lead the introduction of innovative Own Brand products in collaboration with product development teams
  • Negotiate best-in-class purchase terms, ensuring quality, availability and competitiveness
  • Build and manage long-term supplier relationships that support joint business planning
  • Act as the commercial link between the brand and the retail network, supporting execution and implementation through effective store toolkits
  • Align category plans with brand values and customer expectations
  • Contribute to and lead strategic projects that enhance trading performance and category impact

Requirements for the Senior Buying Manager include:

  • 3+ years’ experience in a buying, category, or trading role in retail or FMCG
  • Strong commercial acumen and track record of delivering profitable category growth
  • Passion for food and deep awareness of food trends and shopper behaviour
  • Solid understanding of the Irish and/or UK grocery market
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and supplier relationship management skills
  • Proficient in data analysis with a strategic, insights-led approach
  • Knowledge of category management principles an advantage
  • Degree qualified or equivalent relevant experience
