Excel Recruitment are seeking an experienced Fresh Food Manager to join a busy retail operation in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded food retail professional to take ownership of fresh food operations, lead a team, and make a real impact on department performance.

Salary: €38,000-€42,000 + Bonus

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the daily operations of the fresh food department, ensuring consistently high standards.
• Lead, motivate, and develop the team to deliver excellent customer service and strong performance.
• Drive sales, profitability, and departmental KPIs through effective commercial management.
• Maintain exceptional standards of product quality, freshness, presentation, and availability.
• Manage stock control, ordering, waste reduction, and rotation to maximise profitability.
• Ensure full compliance with food safety legislation, HACCP procedures, and health and safety requirements.
• Manage labour planning, staff scheduling, and departmental productivity.
• Monitor performance and identify opportunities to improve sales, margins, and operational efficiency.
• Build strong relationships with suppliers and ensure the department meets customer expectations.
• Create a positive team environment focused on accountability, service, and continuous improvement.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Previous experience in a fresh food management or supervisory role within food retail, supermarkets, or a similar environment.
• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
• A commercially focused mindset, with an understanding of sales, margins, stock management, and waste control.
• Excellent knowledge of food safety standards and HACCP procedures.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• A passion for fresh food quality, presentation, and customer service.
• A proactive approach, with the confidence to take ownership and drive results.
