Buyer – Hardware & DIY

Excel Recruitment is recruiting a Buyer – Hardware & DIY for a well-established retail business based in Cork with hybrid working available.

Reporting to the Head of Retail Buying, you will manage sourcing, supplier negotiations and category performance across fuel, décor and paint, provisions and ironmongery. Candidates with buying experience in related categories, including hardware, power tools, white goods or DIY are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities of this Buyer – Hardware & DIY include:

• Develop purchasing plans to drive sales, profitability and category growth.
• Source new products and suppliers to strengthen the range.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, trading terms and promotional support.
• Manage supplier relationships, performance and issue resolution.
• Analyse sales, market trends and competitor pricing to inform buying decisions.
• Manage stock availability while minimising slow-moving, damaged and seasonal stock.
• Collaborate with Finance, Marketing and retail teams on promotions and margin improvement.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and category planning.
• Maintain accurate product, pricing and purchasing information.
• Undertake national and international travel as required.

Requirements for this Buyer – Hardware & DIY include:

• At least two years’ relevant buying or purchasing experience.
• Category experience in fuel, décor, paint, provisions, ironmongery, hardware, power tools, white goods, DIY or similar.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of margins and stock management.
• Excellent negotiation, analytical, communication and organisational skills.
• Strong IT skills; experience using Intact or another management information system is advantageous.
• Far East sourcing and FOB purchasing experience would be an advantage.
• A relevant third-level qualification is desirable.
