Assistant Director of Nursing

Excel Healthcare is currently recruiting an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) in a well-located, private nursing home located in their Dublin Airport area. This leading facility provides top quality nursing care for adults with low, medium, and high dependency.

This is a full-time permanent contract within a long-term care facility. This residential unit caters to a mixed dependency of patients and strives to provide a unique staff-to-patient ratio of knowledgeable experts. As an Assistant Director of Nursing, you will be responsible for Staff Nurses and several Healthcare Assistants under the direction of the Director of Nursing.

The ideal candidate for this role would have previous managerial experience within the Irish healthcare system and it would be an advantage to have experience in care of the elderly.

Responsibilities of an Assistant Director of Nursing job:

  • Managing and leading a team of healthcare professionals in a large facility.
  • Encourage a learning environment to develop all grades of staff while fostering a team environment.
  • Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, including staff nurses and healthcare assistants, ensuring effective communication while demonstrating commitment to our client’s core values.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in managing bed allocation to ensure optimal allocation of all residents.
  • Attend management meetings and report back on any issues raised at such meetings.
  • Maintain an accurate record of all incidents and ensure proper reporting of all incidents to the Safety Officer.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the most recent nursing policies and methods that are relevant to the clinical or defined area, such as the person-centered care idea.

Requirements for this ADON job:

  • Hold active NMBI Registration Pin.
  • A minimum of 3 years at management level in the last 6 years in care of the elderly.
  • Thorough knowledge of HIQA standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of HIQA regulations and standards.
  • High levels of organisational and communication skills.
  • Proven managerial and decision-making skills.
  • A qualification in Gerontology or Dementia is not essential, but desirable.
