Financial Controller – Fashion Retail

My client is a long-standing retailer, who stock some fantastic fashion brands on their website and in their stores nationwide.

They are recruiting a fully qualified Financial Controller with 5 years’ experience, preferably from within retail or hospitality.

Reporting to the owners and working from the Roscommon Head office (2 days from home) you will oversee an accounts assistant and the external company accountant.

You will be a very commercial finance person who will support the owner and managers with making key business financial decisions.

As Financial Controller you will drive the accounts function forward and be able to implement changes, introduce new systems, new processes and procedure, and more efficient and accurate ways of working.

This person will oversee and improve the financial systems and work closely with the senior management team on business and financial strategy.

You will have experience with payroll, IFRS, and group reporting for statutory purposes.

Salary and Package

  • Salary €70k-€80k, salary negotiable for the right candidate, but must reflect experience
  • Free onsite parking
  • 2 days working from home

Responsibilities for the job of Financial Accountant

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of a small finance team
  • Monitor and report on operations and performance with monthly dashboards and weekly KPI’s for the management team
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flow
  • Work with the buying team to ensure seasonal supplier budgets are maximising gross profit
  • Improve current reports as well as develop and create new reports for the broader business
  • Manage payroll
  • Drive the quarter-end process
  • Ensure all Balance Sheet accounts are rectified of any differences and issues
  • Responsible for the commentary on the Balance Sheet/P&L variance to budget
  • Report on expense variances to budget/forecast and provide recommendations to drive business performance
  • Manage capital expenditure project spends, return on investment and cost/benefit analysis and report on spend monthly
  • Conduct monthly reviews to improve budget accuracy
  • Produce monthly department margin analysis
  • Support all branches and departments of the company by providing meaningful business data to enhance net margins.
  • Manage tax compliance including co-operating with external tax advisors
  • Consult with external auditors on the delivery of financial statement audit
  • Prepare statutory returns- VAT, PAYE, PRSI etc.
  • Prepare Annual Accounts with external accountants
