Location: Limerick
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent | 35 hours per week over 4 days
Excel Recruitment is proud to partner with a newly established, cutting-edge Cancer Centre in Limerick to recruit a dynamic and motivated Senior Radiation Therapist. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and excellence of a modern radiotherapy department from its early stages, working within a collaborative and progressive environment.
You will work closely with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, and a highly supportive Radiation Therapy Manager, contributing to high-quality patient care while supporting the operational and clinical effectiveness of the department.
Job Purpose
The Senior Radiation Therapist will play a central role in delivering safe, accurate, and compassionate radiation therapy treatments while supporting clinical governance, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to service development initiatives.
This position combines advanced clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, and operational excellence are maintained.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
Deliver high-quality, evidence-based radiation therapy treatments in line with prescribed protocols.
Review and verify treatment plans in collaboration with Radiation Oncologists and Medical Physicists.
Ensure accurate patient positioning, imaging verification, and treatment delivery.
Maintain comprehensive and precise patient documentation.
Provide empathetic support and clear communication to patients and families throughout their treatment journey.
Leadership & Supervision
Support, mentor, and guide junior Radiation Therapists and students in clinical practice.
Act as a clinical resource and role model within the department.
Assist with rostering, workflow coordination, and daily operational oversight as required.
Contribute to performance development and ongoing training initiatives.
Quality & Governance
Ensure compliance with all departmental policies, radiation safety standards, and regulatory requirements (including HIQA/JCI where applicable).
Participate in and support the Quality Assurance (QA) programme.
Contribute to audits, incident reporting, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Uphold best practice standards in radiation safety and patient care.
Service Development & Research
Participate in MDT meetings and complex case discussions.
Support service innovation, new technology implementation, and clinical pathway development.
Engage in research activities, clinical trials, and professional development opportunities.
Contribute to departmental projects aimed at enhancing efficiency and patient experience.
Eligibility Criteria
Recognised qualification in Radiation Therapy
Current CORU registration
Min 3 years experience as a Radiation Therapist, with demonstrated senior-level clinical responsibility
Strong clinical expertise across modern radiotherapy techniques
Proven leadership and mentoring capability
Solid understanding of clinical governance and quality frameworks
Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making skills
Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a multidisciplinary team
