Excel Healthcare are recruiting an Occupational Therapist (Staff Grade or Senior) on behalf of an Adult Mental Health Inpatient Service in Mullingar.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and compassionate Occupational Therapist with an interest in acute mental health, recovery-focused care, and service development. The role offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to contribute to both frontline clinical care and the evolution of inpatient services.

Job Purpose:

To provide high-quality, recovery-oriented occupational therapy to adults in acute mental health crisis and those preparing for discharge, supporting independence, wellbeing, and meaningful participation in life.

The post holder will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) across two inpatient units, an admission unit and a rehabilitation/step-down unit, ensuring a balance between intensive intervention and long-term recovery planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver occupational therapy assessments and interventions for adults experiencing acute mental health crises.
  • Support clients in preparing for discharge and reintegration into the community.
  • Facilitate individual and group-based interventions with a strong focus on meaningful occupation and recovery.
  • Contribute to the development of two new therapy suites, with opportunities to shape service environment design.
  • For Senior OTs: take an active role in policy development, service redesign, and clinical governance initiatives.
  • Work as part of a committed multidisciplinary team, collaborating with psychiatry, nursing, psychology, and social work colleagues.
  • Participate in clinical audit, service evaluation, and best practice initiatives.

Essential Requirements:

  • BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification recognised by CORU)
  • CORU Registration (essential)
  • Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy (BSc/MSc or equivalent).
  • A genuine interest in adult mental health care and recovery-focused practice.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and documentation skills.
  • A collaborative, person-centred approach to intervention and care planning.
  • Proven ability to engage in service development, policy, or leadership.
