Excel Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and experienced Retail Operative to join our client, a busy Trade Home DIY and Garden Centre based in Galway. This is an excellent opportunity for a customer-focused individual looking to build a long-term career within a growing, independent business.

Location: Galway
Salary: €15 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30/8:30am – 4:30/5:30pm
Contract Type: Temporary (with view to permanency)

Role Overview

As a Retail Operative, you will play an essential role in the smooth day-to-day running of the store. You’ll support customers with their purchases, maintain organised and well-stocked displays, and ensure a safe, welcoming shopping environment. The ideal candidate will have a practical, hands-on approach, strong attention to detail, and a passion for helping customers find the right products for their home or garden projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver excellent customer service by assisting with queries, locating products, and offering basic DIY or gardening advice.

  • Operate tills, handle payments, and process transactions accurately and efficiently.

  • Replenish stock, keep shelves neat and full, and rotate products as required.

  • Assist with unloading deliveries and ensure stock is properly stored or displayed.

  • Maintain clean, tidy, and safe store areas, including outdoor and garden sections.

  • Support trade account customers with bulk orders and collections.

  • Participate in regular stock counts and assist with inventory control.

  • Comply with all health & safety, security, and store procedures.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a retail, trade counter, warehouse, or garden centre environment.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling duties.

  • Practical, proactive, and solution-oriented approach.

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
