Job Title: Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist
Location: Cork

Contract: Fulltime, Permanent, 35 hours per week

Excel Recruitment is proud to partner with a leading hospital in Cork to recruit a highly experienced Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist to join their Radiation Oncology Department on a 1‑year specified purpose contract.

This is a Senior clinical opportunity for a CORU-registered Radiation Therapist with demonstrated specialist expertise, strong leadership capability, and a passion for advancing Radiotherapy practice, education, and service development.

The Role – Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist

As a Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist, you will provide expert-level clinical leadership within a designated specialist area of Radiotherapy practice. You will work closely with Consultant Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physics, and the wider MDT to optimise patient outcomes, support complex treatment pathways, and drive evidence-based practice.

This role combines advanced clinical practice, education and mentorship, service development, and quality improvement, making it an ideal opportunity for an experienced Radiation Therapist seeking a senior clinical leadership role without moving away from patient-facing work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the clinical expert within a defined specialist area of Radiotherapy practice
  • Deliver and oversee complex radiotherapy treatments, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and patient care
  • Lead and support advanced treatment techniques, protocols, and pathways in collaboration with the MDT
  • Provide expert input into treatment planning, image verification, and adaptive Radiotherapy processes
  • Support and lead CT simulation, complex clinical mark-ups, and image-guided Radiotherapy (IGRT)
  • Mentor, educate, and clinically supervise Radiation Therapists and students, supporting skill development and competency
  • Lead or contribute to clinical audits, research projects, and service improvement initiatives
  • Support the implementation and evaluation of new technologies, techniques, and workflows
  • Act as a clinical resource for Radiation Oncologists, Physics, and Nursing colleagues
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety legislation, quality assurance standards, and hospital policies
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and data within the ARIA system
  • Actively engage in CPD, education, and evidence-based practice in line with CORU requirements

Eligibility Criteria

  • To be considered for this Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist job in Cork, candidates must demonstrate:
  • A recognised qualification in Radiation Therapy
  • Current CORU registration
  • Significant post-qualification experience in Radiotherapy practice
  • Demonstrated specialist clinical expertise within a defined area of Radiotherapy
  • Evidence of advanced clinical decision-making and leadership
  • Experience in education, mentorship, audit, research, or service development
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
  • A strong commitment to clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient-centred care
  • Deliver safe, accurate, and high-quality radiation therapy treatments in line with prescribed treatment plans and departmental protocols
  • Justify and evaluate pre-treatment imaging and ensure precise treatment delivery
  • Provide compassionate psychosocial support to patients throughout their treatment journey
  • Perform CT simulations and clinical mark-ups as requested by the Radiation Oncologist
  • Administer oral and IV contrast agents (where competency is held)
  • Accurately record and maintain patient data within the ARIA system
  • Identify and report any treatment deviations to the Physics team promptly
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to support coordinated patient care
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior Radiotherapy staff, ensuring competency and professional development
  • Support the implementation of new technologies, procedures, and service improvements
  • Maintain compliance with all radiation safety regulations and quality standards
  • Actively engage in continuous professional development (CPD) in line with CORU requirements
